Climate Change Coalition’s July program

Internationally known forest ecologist Lee Frelich will lead a forest exploration hike at Newport State Park for the Climate Change Coalition of Door County on Friday, July 27.

Before he was a globally known scientist, Lee Frelich was a boy spending summers in rural Ellison Bay, passing his days in endless exploration of the woods that would become Newport Park. He thus brings to this guided hike both scientific expertise and an intimate knowledge of this exceptional Door County landscape.

A Road Map for Wisconsin’s Climate & Energy Future

The Climate Change Coalition of Door County brings in amazing speakers to our wonderful community – this is one of them. Please check out this GEM!!

The speaker is Chelsea Chandler, director of Environmental Initiatives at the Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters. The program was free and open to the public.

Green Tier Legacy Communty: Egg Harbor, WI

Egg Harbor is making strides toward sustainability by becoming the first village to adopt the Green Tier Legacy Community Charter.

The GreenTier Legacy Communities Charter is a unique partnership between Wisconsin communities, non-profit organizations, and state agencies. We work together to assist communities in developing and implementing sustainability measures. Under the Charter, municipalities take actions and share information to achieve superior environmental stewardship by focusing on water resources management and/or sustainability practices. By collaborating, communities are able to move further, faster, toward reaching their sustainability goals.

Here is a great look at Lakeshore Natural Resources Partnerships (LNRP), an incredible organization in our region doing many things that parallel many of Thrive’s vision.

“Our work is very much defined by our mission, which you can see right at the top of our webpage: “Cultivating community and stewardship from the ledge to the lakeshore.” We look at enhancing the quality of life in the places where we work, live, and play. Our role is helping people realize that taking ownership over the stewardship of their backyards is critical to not only them, but their children, and their children’s children.”
